Sexual Health Advisor (Part-time)

Location: Walthamstow, East London

Type of Contract: Part-time, fixed-term (ending 01/09/2016 – could be extended depending on funding and performance)

Hours of Work: 12 hours per week

Salary: £14.00 per hour

YMCA East London is the leading provider of youth services in east London, running a hostel for young people, after school clubs and children’s activities and a health & fitness programme.

YMCA East London Youth and Community Services believe in a society that values all young people and their developing sexuality. The Sexual Health Advisor will work to support and provide access for all young people to develop their self-confidence, skills and understanding they need to enjoy and take responsibility for their sexual lives, sexual health and wellbeing.

This is an exciting new role to be involved in leading the promotion and development of sexual health services for young people both in the hostel and the wider community. To deliver free and confidential services, education, counselling, advice and campaigns to improve the sexual health and wellbeing of vulnerable and hard to reach young people.

About the job:

The post holder will engage in all aspects of youth and community work and settings, such as centre based, detached or outreach work, with an emphasis on improving access to Sexual Health services at the Health and Wellbeing Centre and new initiatives that lead to sustainability of the service. The post holder will liaise with internal and external agencies and partners to develop the provision and encourage young people to be involved in the decision making and direction of the service. You will also be responsible for assisting with administration duties, monitoring and evaluation.

About you:

It is essential that the Sexual Health Advisor has:

  • A recognised or equivalent Level 3 qualification or above in Sexual Health & Relationships.
  • Experience of working in youth clubs, schools, colleges and hostel settings
  • Experience of leading, designing, and delivering a sexual health and relationships project or activity programme
  • Flexible approach as this position includes both face-to-face delivery during evenings and weekends
