Ronnie Cumming, Supported Housing Officer
Ronnie

Joined YMCA East London in 2014

What do you like best about working for us?

I like being able to make a difference and it’s the best staff team I’ve ever worked with.

Describe a typical day in the life of a Supported Housing Officer.

Impossible. It’s so varied because a person’s needs can change from day to day. One minute you’re dealing with finding accommodation, the next could be an ASBO incident and then it could be a major social problem.

What do you think about the learning and development opportunities offered in YMCA EL?

Very good. The organisation is open to staff making suggestions about our own training. Recently our SHO team raised the need for mental health training and we had an external person come in and give us more training.

Name a couple of things you have on your ‘Things I must do before…. list’

A history degree, I’ve always loved it. I’d also like to improve my piano playing.

If you had the means and resources to invent a gadget that could do anything you choose, what would it be?

A sock pairer!

What would you say to someone thinking of joining us?

Go for it! See my answer to q1 above.
