On the 2 August, Mike Wilson, Jack Sadler and Will Stewart will be taking part in the grueling Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 in support of YMCA East London’s work at Brooks Farm.
The three friends will be riding a staggering 100 miles through the capital and into the Surrey countryside – a real test of endurance and stamina!
Brooks Farm is an urban farm in the heart of East London. With its extensive range of animals, farm related activities and volunteer programme, it offers people the rare opportunity to experience semi-rural life in an extremely built up inner city area. Entry is free for visitors and we rely on donations to pay for the animals’ food and upkeep. For more information on Brooks farm visit http://www.ymcaeastlondon.org.uk/brooks-farm/
Mike says, “I have been working at Brooks Farm for the past few years, and we have recently been handed over to YMCA East London (FYMCA) who breathed a new lease of life into our little run down farm. I didn’t really know much about FYMCA but quickly started to realise the importance of their work and how many lives they touch. I experience first-hand how they help people get back into work with their in-house employment program and how they do not just help homeless people, but engage entire communities. The cycle training is very hard, but it helps that I am doing it with my mates and for a cause that I feel strongly about”.
Jack says, “When Mike asked me to take part in the ride I jumped at the chance. The charity does great work and supports a local city farm that gives people in the heart of the capital a taste of the country life. Not only am I challenging my physical and mental abilities with this ride but I want to spread the good work that the YMCA is doing in our local communities.”
“I’ve been to Brooks Farm quite a few times and I’ve seen how important places like this are to young people in a city. Brooks Farm helps to teach kids about animals and nature first hand, and this is something we should hold onto! I am more than happy slugging through 100 miles to help keep it going.” says Will.
